What to Expect on Sunday Morning
New to the Unitarian Society of Menomonie? Welcome!
We gather in worship to find meaning and live more deeply. Worship creates connections within, among, and beyond us, calling us to our better selves, calling us to live with wisdom and compassion and to work for social justice. We gather together in spiritual community because we need constant reminders of what matters most in life. Ours is a chosen faith. We come from many other faith traditions—and from no religion at all. We warmly welcome all seekers of a free church to our Sunday services regardless of religious or spiritual belief, background, life path or age. We are welcoming of all genders and sexual orientations.
Finding Us
We worship in the meeting room of the Alano Club, our space sharing partner, at 105 North 21st Street, Menomonie. Entry is either the ramp on the east side of the building or the adjoining door, which has only a few steps. Most people dress casually.
Childcare and children’s religious exploration.
Religious exploration is available for school-age children during services, which are held on second and fourth Sundays during the school year. An inter-generational Story For All Ages is read, then children are ‘sung out’ to their RE classes. Children may remain with their parents for the entire service, or hang out with a ‘busy bag’ in the back of the room. Pre-schoolers may spend time with the childcare provider. The schedule varies during the summer, so please check the calendar.
Services Themselves
Our services last about an hour, including a 20 minute message/sermon. These may be responsive to current events, but may also be ethical, historical, social justice-themed, or all of the above. We light a chalice, the symbol of our faith, at the beginning of worship, and extinguish it at the close. We sing hymns and have readings. We have a Story For All Ages, and we share our joys and concerns with each other through the dropping of pebbles into a vase. Check the Services and Events Calendar for topics of upcoming services.
Fellowship Hour
After worship, we gather for coffee, tea, juice and snacks. Fellowship Hour is a great time to talk about anything and everything as we build our beloved community!
